Cattle Drive on the Seiser Alm
A traditional celebration that connects people and animals
Saturday, 4 October 2025 marks a very special day on the Seiser Alm: the traditional cattle drive. Farmers from the valley villages – Siusi, Castelrotto, San Valentino and Tagusa – proudly accompany their animals back home after the summer on the alpine pastures.
The cows, adorned with flower crowns, make their way through Compatsch together with sheep, goats and horses. Cowbells echo, the atmosphere is festive, and the spirit of tradition is alive and well.
The celebrations start at 10:00 am, with live folk music, craft demonstrations, farmers' market stalls and delicious alpine dishes. At around 10:30 am, the procession begins its descent into the valley.
For guests at the Hotel Ritsch, this is a unique chance to witness an authentic alpine tradition up close – with the cattle parade passing right by our doorstep.
